You’re free to choose any of our professional instructors and continue booking lessons at your own pace.

How many driving lessons do I need in Victoria?

There is no minimum number of professional driving lessons required in Victoria. To get your licence, you must be at least 18 years old.

If you are under 21, there are extra requirements:
 • Complete at least 120 hours of supervised driving.
 • Log at least 20 hours of supervised driving at night.

With Shortcut Driving’s structured program:
 • A complete beginner usually needs around 10 × 90-minute lessons, covering three stages: vehicle control, quiet street practice, and main road driving.
 • If you already hold an overseas licence, you may only need 2–4 × 90-minute lessons to adjust to Australian road rules and VicRoads test conditions.

 • International licence holders or students just preparing for the VicRoads Drive Test typically need only 2–4 × 90-minute lessons to be drive test ready.

Do you provide vehicles for lessons?

Yes. All lessons are conducted in our instructors’ cars. Our fleet is equipped with the latest safety features and dual controls, giving learners extra confidence behind the wheel. Every vehicle is fully insured, including public liability and professional indemnity coverage, so you can focus on learning in a safe and supportive environment.

Can I use your car for the VicRoads Drive Test?

Yes. You can book a test supervision with us, which allows you to use your instructor’s car for the

How do I book a lesson?

Booking with Shortcut Driving is easy and fully online:
1. Visit our booking page and choose the instructor that matches your style and preference.
2. Select your preferred date and time — you and your instructor will instantly receive a confirmation email.
3. On the day of your lesson, meet your instructor at VicRoads Carlton (459 Lygon Street, Carlton VIC 3053). You’ll also receive a text reminder from your instructor the day before your lesson.

Question 7

What do I need to bring to my first lesson?

If you are a learner driver in Victoria, you must bring:
 • Your Learner’s Permit (it is a legal requirement to carry your permit while driving on Victorian roads).
 • Your logbook or MyLearners app (if this applies to your permit).
If you are an overseas licence holder, you should bring:
 • Your Victorian Learner’s Permit (if you have obtained one).
 • OR your original overseas driver’s licence, plus a certified translation if your licence is not in English.

Finally, don’t forget to bring any glasses or corrective lenses you are required to wear while driving.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson?

Yes. You can reschedule your lesson for free up to 48 hours before your booking.

If you have an emergency within 48 hours of your scheduled time, please contact us at hello@shortcutdriving.com.au, and we’ll do our best to help you reschedule based on your circumstances.
Please note: cancellations or no-shows are non-refundable, as your instructor has already reserved the time for you. Thank you for understanding.
